Gala Yuzawa :: Snow world Experiences
Salam! Hi everyone~How is everyone doing?
I’m Wahida and I am a muslim Malaysian living in Japan.
I want to share my experience travelling to Gala Yuzawa using Tokyo Rail Days(TRD), a product by JR East Japan and is available in Singapore.
You can buy TRD from selected travel agents in Singapore.
Check travel agent list at TRD homepage http://www.jp-rail-sg.com/
TRD is a travel package that includes transportation pass that you can use to travel in Kanto area for 3 days, unlimited and set with activities.
When you buy TRD from travel agent, you can arrange to receive it in Japan, to your accommodation, to airport and even to your family house if you have one living in Japan. EASY BUY! EASY TRY! EASY GO!
NEVER peel the plastic off the ticket.
If you take the ticket out, your pass will be void and you won’t be able to use it.
Receive date stamp at manned gate of your first station to mark your starting date of using the pass.
Just a smile and head gesture is understandable enough.
Go through manned gate like this. You cannot go through auto gate!
-ARRIVING & SNOW PLAY-
Gala Yuzawa station is connected to Ski Center Cowabunga. After you arrived, go to ticket counter to exchange your voucher to ticket.
You can wait in line at counter with your preferred language.
Gala Yuzawa has counter for many languages such as English, Mandarin, France, and Cantonese. Sometimes, they also have English counter.
Exchange your gondola voucher here.
Besides winter sports, you can play sled and snow at the playground area or join Kanjiki Walking Tour(with additional price).
Even if you can’t play ski/snowboard, you can still enjoy snow with these activities!
Sled rental is available at your left when you exit gondola.
Snow playground is located next to sled playground.
For Kanjiki Walking Tour, you will walk through natural snow mountain in traditional Japanese snow shoe called Kanjiki with guide. Walking route is through tunnel with stairs(about 100 stairs!) and nature path where the untouched snow is soft and if you’re lucky you might even can see wild rabbit and wild Japanese deer. The snow is definitely softer than at snow playground and you’ll get to see mesmerising view of snow mountains from the viewpoint. Guide will explain to you about local Yuzawa area and the mountains that can be seen from viewpoint. Don’t worry about language because the friendly guide can explain in understandable English so you too can enjoy the view with explanation.
I really recommend you to join this tour.
I’m going to introduce facilities available in Gala Yuzawa.
1) Rental counter
If you’ve opted for rental when you bought TRD, you will receive application form with your vouchers. So you can fill it in advance and go straight to rental counter to save time. If you worry about sizes, you can refer at English desk.
You can always change your rental if the size doesn’t fit.
When you receive your rental wear, you MUST keep the copy of your application form because you will need it when returning the rental.
If you’re using sled, you can receive sled token (card) here to exchange with your sled at central area on the mountain.
2) Changing room and locker area.
You can buy locker ticket at ticket counter or machine outside of changing room.
Changing room is very close to rental counter.
Lockers are inside changing room.
There are two type of changing room in Gala. One is separate woman and man type at 2F and another one is for family at 3F near Irori lounge. Family type also has separate woman and man changing room but here, family can share same locker together.
For 2F changing room, toilets are also in same space.
3) Prayer space
Gala Yuzawa has two prayer spaces in Ski Center Cowabunga.
One is at private space in Irori Lounge on 3F. It is inside spa relaxing area so you have to inform staff at Irori Lounge counter when you want to use it.
Another one is changing booth at family changing area. There are 10 booths available. You can use the freely.
4) Child day care at CHEERS
For parents, child day care is available with additional price at Cheers.
Diaper changing station is also available next to day care room.
Both are located at 2F of Cheers building.
For this post, I would like to share with you restaurant and what menu is okay for Muslim to eat at Gala Yuzawa.
Since my trip starts early in the morning, I bought my breakfast at Newsday convenience store inside Tokyo station.
Because train journey is about 75 minutes long, I’d recommend you to buy some snacks and drinks to have on train.
There are restaurants available at Ski Center Cowabunga and Cheers.
All the restaurants in Gala Yuzawa provide menu with allergy picktogram.
So you can check and choose menu by referring to that.
Unfortunately there are no halal certified menus available in Gala Yuzawa. The menu/food is checked and chosen solely based on ingredients and allergy pictogram available. Please check with restaurant staff if you have any questions and consume at your own discretion.
Tuna Mayo Onigiri and vegetable juice.
I’ve checked the ingredients and based on the ingredients on the label, I’ve decided this onigiri at Newsday is edible for me
When buying food at store, you need to check every time you buy because ingredients are changed every season and sometimes pork, non halal meat and alcohol is included in the ingredients even if the onigiri is a seafood onigiri.
Simple tips to unwrap an onigiri:
Follow the step accordingly and you will open them nicely.①→②→③
You know you’ve succeeded when after opened, you were left with 3 pieces of plastic wrap.
So, good luck when you try to unwrap one!
Restaurant available at Cowabunga.
